Getting Involved

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
  1. Contact us and join NC LISTEN. Get involved in immigration reform.
  2. Be an activist or offer to help in a small way, but commit to help. We'll show you how and what to do.
  3. Be part of our Action Alert Team (we have a primary email list for those who want to be very active, and a secondary email list for those who can help occasionally).
  4. Contact the Governor of North Carolina, the State House and Senate leadership, and your specific State House and State Senate member and tell them to stop issuing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. Further, we should not be providing any state government services beyond emergency health care to illegals (other than required by federal law).
  5. Contact your US Senators, your US House - Representative, and the President and insist they stop illegal immigration and control our borders. Tell them no more amnesties for illegal immigrants. Ask them to lower legal immigration to a more sensible number (see Mission Statement ).
  6. Tell your friends and associates about the problem of out-of-control immigration and ask them to speak up and get involved.
  7. See LINKS on our HOME page and visit the websites of FAIR and CIS to better understand the issue of immigration from a national perspective. Be informed.

NORTH CAROLINA - RECOMMENDED STATE LEGISLATION

  • Require a valid passport for all non-citizens to apply for a NC driver's license. State law should mandate that a NC driver's license is only available to those legally present in our state. Rescind all earlier NC driver.s licenses issued to those without a valid Social Security number and have them reapply.
  • Non-emergency services and government benefits should be denied to illegal immigrants as federal law will allow. Use the SAVE [Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements] Program to verify eligibility of recipients and document all benefits given to non-citizens.
  • Require all contractors who apply for and/or are awarded state government contracts to verify worker eligibility by using the E-Verify System and the Social Security verification system.
  • Pass a statute to prevent illegal immigrants from enrolling in NC Community Colleges and the University of North Carolina (sixteen campuses) System.
  • Require all companies receiving State incentives who move to NC or expand their workforce, to verify worker eligibility by using the E-Verify System and the Social Security verification system.
  • Business deductions for NC tax purposes cannot be claimed above $600 for any worker who is not legally present in the USA.
  • Require the NC Department of Labor to post information on its website to assist companies in NC in complying with legal worker verification procedures.
  • Impose an excise tax of 10% on wire transfers originating in NC, when the transferor of the wire transfer is an illegal alien.

FEDERAL LEGISLATION

  • Enforce existing immigration laws and fund previously passed but unfunded provisions of the laws.
  • Finish within one year the implementation of the REAL ID Act.
  • Enforce restrictions on illegal aliens working in America and fine employers who knowingly hire illegals. Increase the number of worksite inspections and increase the fines for repeat offenders.
  • Hire more border patrol agents and continue to use the National Guard at our borders.
  • Prevent contractors who win federal contracts from hiring illegal aliens by requiring them to use E-Verify System and the Social Security system for SSN verification and authentication.
  • Expand and fund the 287g Program to give local & state law enforcement the authority to detain illegal aliens within the course of their regular duties.
  • Lessen the time it now takes for removal of deportable aliens.
  • Reduce overall legal immigration levels to a max of 250,000 per year.
  • Enhance the sharing of information between federal agencies.
  • Increase funding for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program to help states pay for illegal alien incarceration.
  • Deny federal funds to states and local governments who refuse to enforce immigration laws where applicable, or who operate as "sanctuary cities".
  • Discontinue the Visa Lottery program.
  • Finish the implementation of the US VISIT system now.
  • Deny any efforts to implement the North America Union/Security and Prosperity Partnership [SPP] which would in effect erase borders between the USA, Mexico, and Canada and cause a loss of our national sovereignty.
  • Take steps to reduce the number of migrant workers over time to encourage American farmers to further mechanize and automate. Provide federal funds to selected US Agricultural Universities and partner with the Ag industry to quicken the process to develop new technologies for automation and mechanization.

If the US Government would control our borders, enforce laws to prevent the hiring of illegal immigrants, deny non-emergency privileges/social services and driver's licenses to illegals, and implement the 287g program, most illegal immigrants would "self-deport" over a few years. Most illegals cannot sustain themselves in the USA if they do not have a job and do not have a driver's license.
